Old Town Alexandria, the other George Town
It wasn’t easy deciding where to take Cindy on Friday night, after all she is visiting from Orlando and it behooves the role of a host and husband to take her somewhere nice. George town seems to be the proper choice, after all everyone recommends it and it sounds like the in thing to do. I did consider think about the annoyance of having to fight through gridlock traffic to get there and the daunting task of finding parking on a Friday night, but weighing that against the other option, which would have being to default back to the only other place I know two month after coming to VA, the Reston Town Center, I decided to take her there anyways.
The traffic getting there was horrible, and the task of finding a parking was daunting. But we did get there, ate two Georgiatown cupcakes, chocolate hazelnut and red velvet flavored (but for six dollars for two pieces I thought the cupcakes should be the size of large muffins). Checked out the Dean and Deluca store for the very first time, and strolled up and down window shopping. It was nice, but felt like lots of work for an evening night out. There were lots of people, and not the place to go if you just want to relax.
Which is what we wanted to do, just relax and enjoy our times together, so we took another co-worker’s recommendation to go to old town. We went to this Thai restaurant Mai Tai with sitting overlooking the Potomac river. Got the drunken noodle, papaya salad, and my cripsy duck. At first I thought the portions were a bit small, but first bite into the crispy duck was really flavorful, sweet, tangy, spicy. Couple bites later the portion seem to be just about right. The price seem reasonable at 7 ~ 11 dollars a plate, considering the quality of the food and its close proximity to the harbor. Strolling through the artist’s studios in the Torpedo factory and checking out the quaint shops without worrying about the parking meter running dry feel great. There are plenty of other restaurants with outdoor seatings serving great smelling food, at least to us.
Sorry Georgetown, we will be driving the extra 20 minutes or so to old town next time we want a relaxing time out.
random photos with powershot SX110
Tried taking some photos with new compact Canon Power Shot SX110 during a recent camping trip. I would say most photos came out okay, probably have to go back and read the manual. Some close up shots of spiders were interesting though.

Presenting Cindy’s new haircut
Cindy’s super new haircut is just so cool, so curly, and provides limitless entertainment for her husband. I just have to present the photo for those who have not see it.
Taiwanese style donut, with soft doughy center. Pretty good, but I think I still prefer the greasy super sugary hyper fattening American version.
